Echoes

Echoes

“See the music, hear the dance,” was choreographer George Balanchine’s typically witty description of watching ballets (his ballets, at least.) But what really happens when movement and sound merge in the viewer’s mind? Echoes presents an extreme case: music and dance alternate for most of the ballet, only rarely do they come together. But far from being dry, the separation puts our brain into overdrive to fill the blanks - with echoes of what we just heard, what we expect, what we like or dislike.
