Choreographer's Note: All the Rage is a ballet about opposites. The idea to make a piece based on duality came from the score, where opposition is emphasized in surprising ways. Contrasting musical elements - a lyrical melody and sharp chords - are at the heart of the piece. But instead of appearing in a traditional form, they are fragmented, stretched and condensed, transposed to extreme registers and distorted in their sound quality. Against this unusual musical backdrop, three female dancers circumscribe simple patterns on the stage, creating a frame from which fast and violent explosions of movement emerge. Each of the characters in this ballet are aggressive, voracious, nearly menacing figures. However, as the ballet develops, we see their self-presentation, their self-image of insatiability begin to falter, leaving a poignant contrast between the strength of their performance persona, and the person inside.
