Greetings,
How mercurial do you like your art? Should theater, painting, music, or dance be immediately understandable, or does their power lie in mystery? Both, I believe, and achieving one without losing the other remains a great struggle. The solution may lie in combining contradictory elements, such as a complex, abstract score with a simple narrative, or vice versa. The six works on our upcoming program - by Emery LeCrone, Constantine Baecher and myself - all present different results of this strategy. Don't miss them at the performance in two weeks! Read on below for performance details and other news...
Warmly,
Miro Magloire Artistic Director, New Chamber Ballet

NCB Debut & Return Engagement
| | Taka Kigawa & Miranda Cuckson
Making his NCB debut this winter is Taka Kigawa (top photo.)
The "formidable young pianist" (NY Times) has made a name for himself with his daredevil performances of contemporary music.
His sold-out solo recitals have made New York's critic's top choice lists two years in a row. At NCB he will play music by Stockhausen, Berio, Feldman and Handel.
Kigawa will be joined by Miranda Cuckson (bottom photo,) a "superb violinist" (NY Times) who made her Carnegie Hall debut last spring and returns to NCB for the second time this season, performing works by Feldman, Nyman and Handel.

NCB Portrait: Victoria North
| | Ballet and Neuroscience
"More than anything I love performing," says NCB's Victoria North. On stage, no difficulty - demanding choreography, latent injury or treacherous floor - can stop her.
This abandon is cherished by NCB's choreographers who have created colorful solo parts for her: Emery LeCrone in Five Songs for Piano, Constantine Baecher in Sketches of a Woman Remembering, and Miro Magloire in a new solo that will premiere next month.
Offstage, Victoria's driven energy is balanced by a probing intellect that earned her a degree in neuroscience, while continuing to dance, and set her on a course for medical school.
Until then, though, she will continue to create on-stage magic at NCB's upcoming performances.

Both Melody Fader and Erik Carlson have produced solo recordings last year.
Melody's album is dedicated to the music of Frederic Chopin, with an alluring mix of hits and rarities. Erik's album focuses on today's composers with a striking lineup of thought-provoking new violin works. You can get both albums on iTunes (Erik's right away, Melody's after February 1st.) Of course, they will also be available at our performances. Or email us and we will let you know how to order directly from the artists!

The Buzz
| | News From Our Artists...
Here's what New Chamber Ballet's artists have been up to since the last show:
Emery LeCrone choreographed a solo for Lauren Toole premiered at a December fundraiser for the Youth America Grand Prix... Later that month, Sarah Atkins (photo, by Travis Kelley) performed in the Eglevsky Ballet's Nutcracker... Holly Curran performs with Ballet Fleming in Florida this month... It is hard to keep up with our busy musicians: Erik Carlson has performed at New York's Le Poisson Rouge, the Scandinavian House, and Oberlin College in Ohio with the International Contemporary Ensemble and counter)induction (the latter alongside Miranda Cuckson)... Melody Fader will miss our upcoming winter season while she is performing with the Dance Theater of Harlem Ensemble at the Joyce Theater...
