8/01/2007 – Miro Magloire’s New Chamber Ballet will perform an evening of ballets by Magloire and guest choreographer Constantine Baecher, including a world premiere by Magloire, in Tahoe City on August 24th.
The company, known for its intimate performances with total focus on the dance and music, will present solos and duets from the company’s repertory, danced by principal dancers Christin Hanna, a Tahoe native, and Damien Johnson. A highlight will be the world premiere of a new pas de deux choreographed especially for the occasion by Magloire, who will also host the evening.
The works performed include Fall, a meditative suite set to the music of Bach, Valses, a sizzling tribute to South American music, and Wanderlust, a dramatic duet set to a Schubert sonata by guest choreographer Constantine Baecher of the Royal Danish Ballet.
The performance is part of the New Chamber Ballet’s Tahoe Project, a yearly residency of the company in the Lake Tahoe area featuring workshops, outreach programs and performances. The Project, now in its second year, is funded in part by the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation.
More About the Company
The New Chamber Ballet is a New York company that performs original works of contemporary ballet in simple, intimate settings. It is based at City Center Studios on West 56th Street in midtown Manhattan.
Its founder and artistic director is Miro Magloire, a native of Munich who has studied modern dance in New York at the Ailey and Graham Schools, and ballet with Peff Modelski and Wilhelm Burmann. Magloire's sophisticated musicality is evident in his works - his early training was in piano and composition, and at age 17 he was awarded the "Forum of Young Composers Award' in his home state of Rhineland-Westfalia.
As the New York Times dance critic Jennifer Dunning remarked: "In this era of high technique and low irony, there is something to be said for artlessness. Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet....communicated (the) choreographer's quiet vision of dance that blooms where it is planted." (The New York Times, September 26, 2006).
New Chamber Ballet comprises six dancers. Those who will appear in Tahoe are Ms Hanna, who previously danced with the Oakland Ballet and Connecticut Ballet, and Damien Johnson of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Dance Theatre Harlem and the American Repertory Ballet.
