New Chamber Ballet was founded in 2004 by artistic director Miro Magloire. The company has grown into an energetic group of dancers and musicians, supported by guest choreographers, subscribing to an esthetic of simplicity that has been called “a quiet vision of dance that blooms where it is planted” by Jennifer Dunning in the NY Times. As Magloire explains, “I have always felt that a whisper is stronger than a shout, if it is spoken clearly. Clarity, in our case, comes from the poetry of bodies moving to music. We try not to let anything get in the way of that.” The performances of the company are energizing encounters between the music – which is always played live - and dancing in a style that comes from ballet but is not afraid to look for new forms. In the words of Magloire, “we dig deep into the rich heritage of our art form and let it shape us. And then we emerge from it and speak with our own voice, a voice of the early 21st century.”
